About Us

Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP is a boutique law firm with a simple yet ambitious purpose:  To provide our clients with the best representation available at any price, and do it without either the wasteful overhead or the unrealistic billable hours requirements typical of our larger competitors.  Since 1998, our distinctive blend of professionalism and parsimony has earned us a national reputation for excellence in communications and information technology regulation, civil and criminal trial litigation, appellate work, and international trade and national security matters.

Our History

In 1998, our firm opened its doors with a handful of lawyers doing superlative work for leading-edge communications and technology clients.  Having spent many years in excellent firms that declined as they grew larger, the lawyers of Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis deliberately set out to run their firm differently.  While the big firms were busy merging and hiring business consultants, we focused on our clients rather than our profits—and in the process, we quietly established ourselves as one of the nation's premier communications and information technology law firms.

After gaining prominence in the field of communications regulation, we steadily entered other practice areas in which we saw the same potential for excellence.  Our criminal defense practice is extensive and aggressive, and our trial litigation group handles civil matters from investigation and fact gathering through trial.  The attorneys in our Supreme Court and appellate practice have argued dozens of cases before the Supreme Court, and routinely handle major appeals before federal and state appellate courts.  Our legislative practice includes attorneys who have worked for Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and have served as senior officials in the executive branch and at the FCC.  Our international trade, investment, and national security practice has achieved many firsts in matters involving regulation of foreign investment, transactions with foreign-policy and national-security components, and technology exports.

A Few Words About Fees

Every client, no matter how prosperous, wants to minimize the cost of legal representation without settling for second best.  By eschewing the traditional high-leverage, high-billable-hour model characteristic of large firms, we find that we can offer our clients first-rate legal representation at rates that are significantly lower than most of our closest competitors.  In addition, our fees cover all usual incidental expenses, such as legal research, photocopying, and local transportation costs, so you won't have to hire a consultant to understand our bills. And if you're trying to leave the billable hour behind, we are agile enough to be extremely flexible about alternative billing arrangements, such as flat fees, monthly retainers, and blended rates.
