HWG Partner Thomas Mason Co-presents at the D.C. Bar on “Ethical Issues Arising From Lateral Hires, Partner Departures and Law Firm Dissolutions”

Presenters discussed the ethical issues that should be considered when joining a firm as a lateral hire such as the ethical issues related to confidentiality and conflict checks with new and existing clients and the implementation of screens, and waivers. The program also covered several issues related to partner departures including the importance of reviewing your current firm’s partnership agreement, what to look for in the agreement, and an appropriate timeline for notifying clients about your departure. Mr. Mason and Ms. Garczynski also outlined the dissolution process, common dissolution scenarios, and situations that should be avoided in dissolutions.
