A dedicated HWG team celebrated an important victory yesterday:  securing a grant of asylum in the United States for Meyvi, a persecuted woman from El Salvador.

Meyvi fled her native El Salvador after being beaten and threatened by members of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (“FMNL”) to silence her and keep her from speaking out against political corruption.

Having found her credible and unable to return to her native country, the judge granted her asylum and, on behalf of the United States, welcomed her to our country.  Meyvi now may seek her legal permanent residency within one year and her U.S. citizenship in five years.

The HWG team was led by counsel John Amaya with support from legal analysts Allison O’Connor and Diana Kenealy.
