Scott Blake Harris Appointed Senior Spectrum Advisor at NTIA;
Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP Becomes HWG LLP
WASHINGTON, DC—HWG is pleased to announce that Scott Blake Harris has been appointed as Senior Spectrum Advisor at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) in the Department of Commerce.
Mr. Harris, frequently recognized as one of the country’s top telecom lawyers, has had a storied legal career that spans senior positions in government, industry, and private law firms. Known for his leadership and innovative approach to problem solving, Mr. Harris has built coalitions and community during his prior service at the Department of Commerce, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), and at HWG, the powerhouse telecom law firm he co-founded in 1998.
“We are thrilled for this opportunity for Scott and for our national spectrum policy,” said John Nakahata, Chairman of HWG, “He is an imaginative leader, with deep experience in spectrum use and sharing, and the skills needed to bring all stakeholders together. There is no question that he is the right person to help Assistant Secretary Davidson and Secretary Raimondo lead spectrum policy during this important time.”
As Senior Spectrum Advisor, Mr. Harris will help the NTIA Administrator address spectrum deployment and collaborations with the FCC and other federal agencies. NTIA is the principal telecommunications adviser to the President, and plays a critical role in harmonizing the federal government’s spectrum needs and coordinating those with the FCC in the overall national interest. NTIA is also responsible for managing $48 billion devoted to broadband and spectrum matters as part of the infrastructure package, one of the largest budgetary allocations of information policy in U.S. history.
With Mr. Harris assuming this government post, the firm of Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP, long known colloquially by the initials HWG, has become HWG LLP.
