Stephanie Weiner, who recently served in key positions at the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Energy, will be rejoining Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP, this time as a partner in the firm’s communications and energy practices.

At the FCC, Ms. Weiner served most recently as Senior Legal Advisor to the Chairman, where she focused on wireline, broadband and Internet issues. Before joining the Commission, she served as Senior Legal Advisor to the General Counsel of the Department of Energy, advising on the Department’s most important legal matters.

“I was lucky to have worked with Stephanie when she was at the firm early in her career, at Neustar, and at the Department of Energy — where her work was critical to the entire Department,” said Scott Blake Harris, Chairman of HWG. “We are thrilled she will return to the firm, particularly after the significant work she did at the FCC. Her experience at the Commission and at DOE will be of enormous value to our clients.”

During her tenure as the Chairman’s Senior Legal Advisor, Ms. Weiner oversaw all FCC matters relating to broadband competition and deployment, including network privacy, universal service, and major wireline transactions. Before joining the Chairman’s Office, she served in the FCC General Counsel’s Office as the Chairman’s Special Advisor on Internet Law and Policy.

At the Department of Energy, Ms. Weiner oversaw and managed the creation of a program to enforce DOE’s energy efficiency regulations covering the import and sale of appliances, consumer electronics, lighting and other products in the United States. Ms. Weiner also worked previously as Deputy General Counsel at NeuStar, Inc., and as an associate at Harris, Wiltshire, & Grannis LLP.

“I am excited about rejoining Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis after having the privilege of government service.  I look forward to working on a diverse array of issues for clients and helping the firm continue to expand its robust communications and energy practices,” said Ms. Weiner.

Ms. Weiner received her law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law, where she received the John Paul Stevens award for the highest GPA in the graduating class.  She received her M.A. in Public Policy from the University of Chicago and her B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Brown University. She began her legal career clerking for Judge David S. Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and Senior Judge Milton Shadur of the U.S District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Though she can be reached immediately, she will commence work in April.
