Jared Marx is a litigator with the law firm of Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP. His areas of specialization include:
Government and Internal Investigations: Mr. Marx conducts internal investigations for companies and represents companies responding to government investigations, and believes his success in doing so comes from learning his clients’ businesses in granular detail. He has specific expertise in representations that involve complex technology, accounting, and finance issues, as well as investigations initiated by various arms of the Federal Communications Commission.
Complex Litigation: Mr. Marx represents businesses and individuals in civil and criminal litigation on a wide range of subject matters, including contract disputes, compliance with regulatory regimes, and alleged violations of federal criminal law. Mr. Marx has successfully represented clients in arbitration and trial courts, including a recent win before a JAMS arbitrator that included a grant of all requested relief, plus an award interest and attorneys’ fees. He also has particular experience in representing clients in litigation related to the telecommunications industry, including claims under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
Appellate Litigation: Mr. Marx regularly authors federal and state appellate briefs, including briefs filed in the United States Supreme Court. He has argued in the Federal Courts of Appeals for the D.C., 5th, and 8th Circuits, and has represented companies, individuals, and sovereign nations in numerous successful appeals.
Cryptocurrency Regulation and Litigation: Mr. Marx advises companies on regulatory issues in the cryptocurrency space, and has written in this area as well. He has a strong working knowledge of the technology underlying cryptocurrency, as well as expertise with the federal regulatory agencies active in the area.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Marx worked as a litigator at another major national law firm, and clerked for United States District Judge Arthur D. Spatt in the Eastern District of New York.
Mr. Marx graduated with honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was an editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Marx taught grade school and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Marx also earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated summa cum laude in Government and Philosophy. Mr. Marx speaks French.
