On June 29, 2012, Wiltshire & Grannis (“W&G”) partner Amy Richardson spoke at the 52nd Annual National Association of College and University Attorneys Conference in Chicago, Illinois.  She participated in the panel “What You Need to Know About the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security on Your Campus.”  Ms. Richardson’s presentation focused on how to deal with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s presence on a college or university campus, including what actions to take, coordinating and communicating with the FBI and avoiding obstruction of justice and false statements.  The other members of the panel were David Hibach, Associate Division Counsel for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Theresa Corcoran, a partner with Kempster, Keller and Lenz-Calvo.

Ms. Richardson represents clients on a variety of issues in state and federal court proceedings at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as before federal agencies.  She has handled several cases involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including representing a corporate client in responding to a federal investigation of the mortgage market.  Ms. Richardson’s white-collar criminal defense experience includes preparing and counseling clients for grand-jury appearances, successfully negotiating immunity agreements, guiding search warrant executions, participating in debriefings with prosecutors, and trial testimony.

The National Association of College and University Attorneys is an organization dedicated to providing legal assistance to colleges and universities by educating attorneys and administrators as to the nature of campus legal issues.  One of its most important roles is providing continuing legal education to university counsel.  The organization’s membership comprises more than 1,600 campuses (about 700 institutions) and is represented by  more than 3,800 attorneys nationwide.
